Hacked PSP Slim – Should I accept it when he says: "System Software Update Required?
Im worried about this update is currently I hacked the firmware of an officer, I can not play my homebrew?
I guess you try to download something from the PSN they have added something to not let it download anything if you have custom firmware. You're right, if you hit accept then it will install the firmware Official PSP and not be able to run homebrew. I guess the firmware is one of the M33. Search the web and is one called GEN-D, an update, and should solve the problem.
How to update Firmware on a PSP?
I just got a PSP off Ebay with “4.01 M33″ system software on it. Apparently, people call that “custom firmware”. There are new games that require me to update to higher versions. And someone told me that I should stick with custom firmware and not install Official Firmware… or I’ll end up “bricking” my new PSP.
So can someone please help me out at what I have to do? Where can I obtain firmware? Is there a particular order I have to install it? (like before I install 5.05, I have to install 5.00 etc…). Is there a way to undo an install (in case it does brick).
Please help me out because it seems silly to buy a system for 150 bucks and not be able to play any games and end up destroying it within a week…
OK, so here’s the rundown on updating from an old 4.01M33
First you have to make sure you’re up to 4.01M33-2 (Second revision of the M33 4.01 firmware)
Lets assume you *arent* up to date there. It wont hurt anything if you are, but its always safe to check.
You’ll need to get the 4.01 official update:
http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1506
As well, you’ll need the 4.01m33-2 updater:
http://dl.qj.net/dl.php?fid=25171
Extract files so you have this layout on your PSP’s memory stick:
PSP/GAME/UPDATE/EBOOT.PBP
PSP/GAME/UPDATE/401.PBP
Run the updater thats now in your memory stick under Games, follow the directions.
Now for 5.00M33
Here’s the updater: (500m33_6.zip)
http://forums.exophase.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=7904&d=1232459389
and here’s the official update PBP: (500.PBP)
http://rapidshare.com/files/154173870/500.PBP
Rinse and Repeat for layout and update.
**** IMPORTANT ****
make sure to delete the UPDATE folder in your GAME directory!
Check to make sure you’re running 5.00m33-6 by going system->system configuration->System information and checking the version.
Here’s some places to start getting custom games, too:
dl.qj.net -> the QuickJump downloads system.
pspupdates.qj.net -> the PSP homebrew and news updates system on QuickJump
Some apps I recommend:
MasterBoy -> Sega Master System and GameBoy(color) emulator.
Snes9xTYL (4.2.0) -> Really good SNES emulator.
NesterJ (3.00 compatible version) -> Really good NES/Disk System emulator.
Doom for PSP -> classic DOOM/DOOM2 for PSP. Controls initially are a little twitchy, and the readme is a little vauge at times.
Quake PSP -> Old-School Quake for PSP.
PSPicross -> nice time killer, a copy of Mario Picross for PSP.
PSPKVM -> J2ME for PSP. Opera Mini runs *much* smoother than the built in browser, and you can easily find J2ME phone games that work in it.
LightMp3 -> Fast, light and battery-sipping (as opposed to the battery-guzzling builtin) mp3/wma player.
Bookr -> Nice ebook reader. runs at 8mhz and can last up to *12 hours* of reading. Ebooks can be found around the net.
Apps generally get installed under PSP/GAME or PSP/GAME5XX. in order to run they have to live in a folder with a file called “EBOOT.PBP” in them (thats the ‘program file’ essentially)
Running ISOs:
*disclaimer* I do not endorse nor condone the use of pirated games. really, I don’t. I only play ISO games that I personally own the physical disk for.
You’ll have to open the VSH menu by pressing SELECT. change “UMD ISO MODE” to “m33 driver” or “Sony NP9660″.
Place your ISOs in the “ISO” folder on your memory stick. They will now show up in under Games on your Memory Stick.
To rip a UMD to your memory stick, use “UMDumper”:
http://www.phonicuk.com/Software/UMDumper.aspx
Download, place in /PSP/GAME/ and it will take care of most of the rest. UMDumper automatically places the ISOs and CSOs it generates into the proper folder.
– READ THE README!!! –
the first time I ran UMDumper, I got tired of the music. you can replace it, and I often do with something ambient, but its still a Good Idea to read the readme because of all the buttons.
Whats a CSO?
CSOs are Compressed iSOs. They take up less space but can be slow (most of this is mitigated in the Speed up MS option in 5.00m33-6) and take longer to rip. One option is to rip it as a normal ISO then compress it using UMDGen:
http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/948
UMDGen can also slim down the ISO by removing some of the dummy files (and even take files out of the game; Not recommended by myself, but the optimize button does wonders on some games)
CSOs still go under the ISO directory.
If your game is looking for 5.50, there’s some chance with some trial and error you can get 5.50GEN-B working.
If this is a FAT psp (psp-1000) then you can run the Slim Colors Hack to get many *many* more colors and the 1.50 Kernel Addon (Start googling)
