How To Easily Repair A Sony Play Station Portable (PSP)

Almost every new product that gets introduced into the market comes with its own type of problems, hassles and issues. Such is the case of a Sony PSP. Regularly, issues are arising about defects or problems associated with the Sony PSP. Problems including but not limited to dead pixels, broken UMD drives, analog nubs that are no longer working, PSP ejecting itself when simply twisted, one hand going this way and the other going the other direction, UMD not popping up when twisted and a host of other issues. If your Sony PSP is being faced with problems such as these or more, then succor is on the way for you. In this article, I will show you how to get all these problems solved, not by sending it to Sony or sending it to a technician, but by repairing it yourself!

Firstly let me begin by saying if you are of the habit of twisting the UMD to a certain level such tat it pops up when twisted, that is the worst way to handle a PSP. In short, why do you have to twist it in such a way anyway? You should know that it is such a delicate gadget that does not have such power to withstand such stress.

A major issue that PSP faces is the issue of gathering dust thereby making then malfunction. If that is the case of your PSP, then you do not need to take it to Sony or to any technician, you can easily clean the dust gently by yourself following simple instructions.

All you have to do is disassemble it and clean the dust off. To disassemble it, you will need to remove some screws (seven in total) from the back case of the Sony PSP. Then turn over the PSP and remove the battery, there will appear a warranty sticker titled “WARRANTY VOID IF REMOVED”. Do not get it confused the warranty does not cover dust on the screen, so if you want to get the dust off, you are left with no option than to remove it and voiding the warranty (you will not need it anyway if you do as i instruct). Now gather your snap-on screw drivers and let’s move on.

NOTE: you should always endeavor to gather all the removed screws in a zip lock baggie or on a magnet to hold them while you are at work, else when time to put them back comes, you might find them missing. You will realize that the screw types to be removed are three in number. When this is done, try to lift off the face plate of the unit gently then slide the small screwdriver under the lip that is located on the left part of the button bar and slide it up in such a way that the bar is disconnected from the housing. Care should be taken here so that you do not lose the contact for the numb which is rubber made.

Once you have done this, the next thing is to unplug the button bars flex cable by lifting that tab up towards you and then sliding the cable out. You should be extremely careful when doing this because they are very weak in nature and could break easily if you twist and turn them. Note that this flex connector require you handling them with care, if you force it into a certain position, you would cause more problem than you are trying to fix. Also, the left side of the LCD screen has a metal bracket that holds the LCD in place. You will have no choice than to unhook that side of the LCD by sliding your flat head screwdriver between the LCD housing and the mounting bracket for the LCD.

Once this is done, slowly pop the tabs and the LCD screen will surely come out. Pull out the other side slowly equally so you do not damage it and then turn the LCD a ninety degrees angle in order to be able to access the connector cable. When you lift the clamps on the connectors, you will come across brown clips which are the only things you need to lift up.

At this juncture, you do not need to wipe the LCD until you have something to wipe it with and before you wipe at all, i implore you to try using canned air to see you can get rid of any loose dirt or dust. Take proper care when doing this because the LCD screen is a very delicate part of the PSP and will scratch at the slightest Mal-handling.

I also implore you not to use micro-fiber rags in cleaning the screen because they will leave as much lint as it takes away dust. The best material to get it cleaned is any of the specially made screen cleaning clothes that can be bought purposely for the screen of your LCD monitor or a very soft paper towel such as those used for cleaning glasses. Get?

When cleaning, instead of wiping dust off the screen, I implore you to dust gently across it in such a way that any debris or dust on the screen does not scratch the screen in the process. Once this is done, begin the process of replacing all that you removed just as gently as you removed them and your PSP is totally cleaned.

Now that we have a solution to screen dirt problem, let us move to dead or stuck pixels. At this juncture I need to let you know the difference between a dead and a stuck pixel. A dead pixel can never be repaired. It is dead. It can only be replaced with a new one. But a stuck pixel could be repaired. To fix your stuck pixel by yourself, you will need to connect your game console to your PC via a USB cable. There is a specific software that you will have to download on your PC that is meant for fixing this kind of problem. The whole process is as simple as one can ever imagine. All you need is a detailed PSP repair guide and in a few minutes, your game problem has been solved and you are back enjoying your game.

We have proffered solution to some of most of the problems facing the proper functioning of Sony PSP. If your game develops more problems, i implore you to get a repair guide and get it done yourself and save yourself money and time.
