PSP latest version of the software? how to update? What is the difference singnificant?
I want a PSP, but confuses me with software that is constantly updated and new .. does not mean that the graphics and speed has improved or what?>
Everything is, it updates security to prevent hacking of Sony PSP to do all the updates but this one (3.52) is the updating of security no additional costs other than the fact you can now download a demo to your PSP.
Is my PSP the latest (besides the PSP GO)?
I own a PSP 3000 series, even updated it’s software to 6.3. But i look at PSP Gameplay videos before i purchase games to get an idea of it’s style. A guy posted he has “5.50 GEN-D2″. What does this mean? Is my PSP 3000 a better/more recent version? I’m confused lol. I know the PSP GO is the latest but only difference between that and my 3000 series from what i understand is size,weight, screen are all lesser than the 3000 series. Also PSP GO has 16gigs of memory.

If you do have the PSP-3000, then yes, you do have the latest PSP iteration asides from the PSP Go! And I think that’s a good thing that you bought the 3000 instead of the Go because the Go doesn’t have a UMD drive. That’s a big no-no for me.. (I mean, why the hell would you want a UMDless PSP?!?)
OK, now that you know that you have the latest PSP iteration, let’s talk about that “5.50 GEN-D2″ thing you’ve just read somewhere…
Your 6.3 firmware is an OFW. OFW stands for “official firmware”. These are the firmwares Sony makes for the PSP to fix firmware thingamajigs or add firmware features to your PSP.
The other guy’s “5.50 GEN-D2″ is a CFW. CFW stands for “custom firmware”. Custom firmware is not made by Sony, but made by hackers so that they can add features and other cool stuff to their PSP that is not available on the OFW. So if you have a PSP installed with CFW, you can do a lot of stuff with your PSP that wasn’t originally intended to do. Like, for example, play ripped UMD games straight on your memory stick, allowing you to play multiple games on the go without carrying all of your UMDs. OFWs can’t do that, unless your games are in digital format.
So, to sum it up, you have the latest OFW and the other guy has the 2nd to the latest CFW from the GEN firmwares. (There are other custom firmwares made by other developers and hackers, most of them just doing it as a hobby.. The GEN firmwares being one of the more famous ones..)
